Two years. That was how long my boyfriend and I were deciding if we’ll get a dog or not. Before that, we never imagined ourselves having dogs.
Our families had dogs before, and we learned early on in life how much responsibility it is to have a dog. We were young, not yet financially stable, and barely starting our lives. So, we always thought that unless we could properly feed ourselves and pay our rent on time, we wouldn’t get a dog.
For those two years, there was a lot of back and forth going on until my boyfriend took the leap. I was working at home when he came back with this brown and white, cute little puppy. I held the puppy right away. But different worries were running on my mind.
“How are we gonna feed the dog?”
“What’s the first thing to do?”
“I don’t know how to take care of dogs.”
I was scared. At the same time, my boyfriend reminded me not to get attached yet since the puppy was young and her chance of survival was low. She was separated from her mother a little earlier which is not advisable.
And, oh boy, we were not ready!
There was nothing at home. No food, no collar, no bed, nothing. We had to wait until the next day to get what she needed. So, she enjoyed some nuggets and milk. That day, I remembered reading tons of articles about dogs. After two years, we were still not prepared. She’s five now, and we still have so much to learn.
We will share the joys, hardships, and learnings we experienced with our furbabies along the way.
Meet Arya, our sassy and sweet aspin (mixed-breed) dog.
